Strawberry Fields Forever

Believe me when I tell you I’m not the only one who doesn’t like the taste of real strawberries.  I’ve met enough people, now, who are willing to endure the public scorn of saying ‘No, thanks.’ when a bowl of fresh picked strawberries is placed in front of them.  I’m not willing to go as far as this cilantro website, though.  Actually, I quite like all the other asthetics of the strawberry.  Their deep red color and their sweet aroma.  They make spring time here in Santa Maria one of my favorite times of the year.  It’s around this time we start to see the flatbed trucks piled high and wide with flats of strawberries.  They kind of remind me of that fat guy you might see at Hometown Buffet who forgot to loosen his belt.  These strawberries are bustin’ at the seems to get out, and sometimes, when the trucks turn a corner or switch lanes too fast, they actually do bust out and spill all over the streets.  Within minutes we have smashed strawberries everywhere.  Last night I had the priviledge of riding my bike through a puddle of strawberry jam…so fun!  It reminds me of something out of Willy Wonka or, maybe, what some child dreams heaven would be like.  I thank God for Santa Maria and its strawberry fields that go on forever.

Got Sand?

It was fun hearing stories from some of our friends that went out and played on the dunes this weekend.  Sounds like they did some pretty innovative things, like ’snow’boarding on the dunes.  A lot of people don’t like sand because  it gets everywhere, but you can do some neat things with it.  Check this out…

Protect your head

To clarify yesterdays post, I don’t necessarily agree that challenging non-christians to a debate is the right way to advance God’s glory.  I do think that thoughtful study of the Bible is good to strengthen our own faith.  After all, it is referred to as the ‘helmet of salvation’.  Here are my top 10 guys(in no particular order) that can help you protect your head…

1. John Piper

2. CS Lewis

3. Jonathan Edwards

4. Mark Driscoll

5. AW Tozer

6. Dallas Willard

7. Jerry Bridges

8. Tom Challies

9. George Mueller

10. Sean McDowell

Belief is a cover-up for insecurities.

There are a lot of different beliefs.  There is one Truth.  I am thankful that God has given the body of Christ men and women that can go toe to toe against different beliefs, even beliefs that require discernment because of how close they come to the truth.  These men and women can take something that, on our own, would normally take us 10 years to understand and help us understand it in 10 minutes.  They can strengthen our faith through thoughtful, emotional and sound biblical arguments.  Thanks for the link, Chris…

Mirth

Something so simple as eating popsicles with friends can turn into so much fun.  Especially when jokes are written on the sticks.

Q:What does a whale spread on its toast?

A:Jellyfish

Name’s sake

In the appendix of his book Desirig God, John Piper wrote an essay titled The Goal of God in Redemptive History. His main point for writing the essay is found in the first couple of sentences…

“God’s ultimate goal in all that he does is to preserve and display his glory…he is uppermost in his own affections. He prizes and delights in his own glory above all things.”

He then takes you on a fascinating magical carpet ride, surveying the old and new testament concerning the name of God. His conclusion…

“…the chief end of God is to glorify God and enjoy himself forever. He stands supreme at the center of his own affections. For that reason he is a self-sufficient and inexhaustable fountain of grace.”

Why do I think this so beautiful?

Because, knowing this helps me love people more.

Quotes

One of my favorites…

“If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up people together to collect wood and don’t assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea”

– Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Test blog from iTouch

Testing the WordPress app…
A friend told me about the show Arrested Development, so I’ve been watching it on Hulu. Very funny stuff. Comic genius is creating a lawyer character and naming him Bob Loblaw. Then saying things like he has a law blog named Bob Loblaw Law Blog. Why did it take so long to convince me to watch this show?
